About Byrd's Famous Cookies - Broughton
"In 1924, Benjamin Tillman "Pop" Byrd, Sr. , at the age of 28, began baking his famous Scotch Oatmeal cookies in beautiful Savannah Georgia. He had a small bakery downtown near City Market and delivered the fresh cookies to stores around town in his Model T Ford. Typically, the cookies were sold out of large glass jars at ‘2 for a penny’. Pop’s cookies quickly became a favorite among locals and several more items were added to the bakery lineup, but nothing was as unique or as popular as the Scotch Oatmeal cookie. As the business grew, Pop decided to move the bakery closer to home on the outskirts of town, a little community called Sandfly. In 1929, he built a larger bakery which he lovingly named “Byrd’s Famous Cookies."

If you're strolling down Broughton Street, make sure to stop by . The chocolate chip cookies were absolutely delicious—crispy, buttery, and packed with rich chocolate flavor in every bite. I also loved that they offer free samples, so you can try different flavors before deciding what to buy. The staff was friendly and welcoming, making the experience even better. It's the perfect place to pick up a sweet treat or a tasty souvenir from Savannah. The cookies have been a Savannah favorite for over 100 years, and it's easy to see why.

If you’re in Savannah, you absolutely have to stop by Byrd’s Famous Cookies. The moment you walk in, you’re greeted with the smell of fresh baked cookies and a wall of free samples that makes it impossible to leave empty-handed. On a warm Savannah afternoon, it’s the perfect little sweet stop while exploring downtown. The cookies are light, crispy, buttery, and somehow dangerously addictive. The Key Lime, Salted Caramel, and classic Scotch Oatmeal flavors were incredible, and being able to sample different kinds before choosing made the experience even more fun. The staff was super friendly and patient while we tried “just one more sample” about six times. My daughter Ari officially gives the cinnamon cookie 5 stars, and honestly, she’s not wrong. Zorie and Leian the employees in store are AMAZING!!!! The whole place was amazing, especially all the different flavors and treats to try. We ended up going back for more before leaving River Street. And the strawberry lemonade was AMAZING — cold, refreshing, and exactly what you need walking around Savannah in the heat. Savannah has a lot of great treats, but Byrd’s Famous Cookies really feels like a local tradition. It’s charming, w

Nice outlet making (rather baking) tasty crispy salty or sweet cookies for over 100 years (since 1924) and read the info on the picture captioned “NUMBERS” and find amazing information on this company. Pride of Savannah, I can say.

Really delicious cookies with an incredible history! These soft little biscuits are perfect for bringing home as gifts. They do offer samples and I highly recommend trying the original! There's a reason that led to a cookie revolution!

Exquisite cookies with lots of flavor and the right crunch. I absolutely LOVED their Georgia Peach Cookies! You can taste their different cookies at the "bar" to decide which you like. You can also make a mix of cookies if you so wish. The decor is creative and fun. It was a big hit with the little ones. The fact that it's been a family-owned business for generations only makes it all the more precious.
